11.30 pm, Bus Station


I am back to New York after exactly one year. That time when saying goodbye to Wilson, I remembered him asking me when would be my next visit to NY, " probably during summer…", it was my answer,
A year has passed, and a following summer, from the pay phone in the Empire State building, I contact Wilson, who, leaning on his stick, awaits me at his doorstep.


New York- Bus Station 42nd Street. July 13-06/ 8.45 am


I am here in NY, after a long overnight trip on the Greyhound bus, exhausted by lack of sleep…But it’s still to early to be checked in the hotel. I stop by an Internet Café next to the bus station on the 42nd and the 8…
Always vibrant, crowded, mostly in summer, from this 42nd Street up to the section of Broadway, Fashion, and America, NY stays the city that seems never sleeps. When I finish sending some email to Montreal, it’s already pass 9 am. I am heading now to Chelsea, my camera on.

I take a walk along the Hudson river to fully enjoy a peaceful dawn of the city. I pass by the Feigen Gallary located on the 20th and 10th Street, but it’s still closed. In a small street where one can find a lot of other galleries, I run in to JohnHeld Jr. and Bluzz. John informs me that Feigen won’t organize shows about Ray’s collages, yet activities will be held at Bill Wilson’s place to mostly welcome back friends.
I stop at Wilson’s house on my way, and is warmly welcomed by himself. However, as it’s still too early, I get back on the 42 nd and the 9th to check myseft in one hotel very close to the station and the Time Square in order to better understand the life of the city.


July 13-2006 / 3pm
I stop by an Internet café on the 27th to check mail. When I am back to Wilson’s place, it is already 4:30pm. I meet with one young Korean fellow, who is an descendant of Nam June Paik, according to Bill Wilson. He looks at the T-shirt that I used for my Performance on April 1995, and he was silent. Then he shows me a partial script of George Brecht on a post card that it’s still in his possession. I read to him the script. In the meantime, he introduces me to his writing about his mother, Mrs. May Wilson.
In a room loaded with books on the 25th and the 10th in Chelsea, where, according to Wilson, there are more or less 300 galleries of all kinds. Meanwhile, on the 2nd floor of Joe’s house, friends start to cook, and I join the circle.
At that present time, guests start to show up.


5.30 pm /July 13-06
I take a lot of pictures during our activities, during which Joe had played the guitare and sang with all his heart. I did the same regarding the pieces of art from May Wilson, the ones that are hang in the walls. The downstairs is Wilson’s reception. We have wine and snacks.
I see Johnheld Jr. and recall him about our next visit in VN, Felter from Vancouver, and Jack from somewhere else. We are all here and discuss about food.
7:30pm – I left Wilson’s house and start wandering on Manhattan’s streets at night to take pictures. NYC at night is wonderfully animated.


9.30 am 14 July-2006 From Time Square to 53th Street

I stop by an Internet Café at Burger King across the hotel on the 42nd Street to send and receive some email. Then I keep walking towrds MOMA on the 53 and 5. It was 10:30 by that time. There are just a few visitors at the museum opening hour, however I notice the presence of Felter from Vancouver at the first row. After a while, everybody is up like yesterday. This is a big presentation on DADA trend, a significant attraction for the museum this year.
Joel is in charge of collecting momey from the group to pay for the museum admission. Everybody is informed to gather at 2pm at the back door to get lucnh together.
I am impressed of the contribution of DADA’ artists through their pieces of art, to the human community, although it was nearly a decade. Their art is still alive in anyone’s mind, the ones who are cheerful to the artistic creation.

2 pm
We are heading towards the back of the museum of Modern Art. This is a fast food location named Burger Heaven that exists nearly 60 years ago in NYC. We separate afer lunch around 3pm.
3:30pm
I feel exhausted and leave before everybody else,
I cancel also the evening banquet at Katz’s to catch my bus as I want to be on schedule for the next day back to montreal...
6:30 Am , July 15-2006 Montréal
I am very pleased during my last 3 days at NYC as I can see everybody, and make new acquaintance with people like Honoria Starbuck(Texas),Jo Ann Hil(England) Johnheld Jr( San Francisco), Jack, Buzz, Sztuka Fabryka(Belgium), Jae Lee, Ken B. Miller(Philadelphia), Anna Boshi(Italy), Jas Felter(Vancouver)...A day in memory of Ray Johnson.

Một chuyến trở lại New York sau đúng một năm, tôi nhớ lại trong năm ngoái khi từ giã Wilson, ông có hỏi tôi" Khi nào trở lại NY" tôi cùng đáp lại" chắc trong mùa hè"...
Nhýng giờ ðây ðã qua một năm, mùa hè của một năm sau,cũng trong năm đó , tôi từ Empire State Building gọi phone cho Wilson theo chỉ dẩn của ông trong E-mail, 15 phút sau đó ông chống gậy ra tận cửa đón tôi...
New York- Bus Station 42nd Street.July 13-06
8.45 am
Đến được NY sau một hành trình dài suốt một đêm trên chiếc GreyHound... Bây giờ hãy còn sớm để vào khách sạn, tôi vừa mệt vì khó ngủ trên xe.... Vào quán Café Internet bên cạnh bến xe toạ lạc trên đường 42 và số 8...
NY vẫn còn cái rôn ràng , tấp nập nhất là vào hè, cũng cái góc phố 42 này, kéo dài đến đường Broadway,Fashion,America thì hầu nhý thức suốt thâu ðêm, khi tôi tranh thủ E-mail về Montréal thì đã trên 9 am...
luôn với cái máy ảnh trên tay, tiến về khu Chelsea...
Đi dọc bên cạnh bờ sông Hudson để thấy cái yên lặng của NY vào buổi sớm, đi ngang qua Feigen Gallery tọa lạc trên đường 20 and 10 nhưng hãy còn đóng cửa,sau đó đành tản bộ trên một con đường nhỏ với thật nhiều Gallery khác, tình cờ gặp lại JohnHeld Jr, và Bluzz, John cho hay là Feigen đã không làm show về những Collages của Ray, nên chýõng trình chỉ có sinh hoạt tại nhà của ông Bill Wilson để hầu gặp lại bạn bè...
Tiện đường tôi ghé lại nhà Wilson, ông đón tiếp tôi thật niềm nỡ, nhưng hãy còn quá sớm, tôi trở lại đường số 42nd và số 9th để lấy phòng trong một khách sạn thật gần Gare và Time Square tiện việc tìm hiểu sinh hoạt của thành phố này...
3pm
Đến một quán Internet trên đường số 27 để Check Mail, sau đó trở lại nhà Wilson thì đã 4.30pm, tôi gặp một ngýời bạn trẻ ngýời Koréa, một hậu duệ của Nam June Paik theo lời giới thiệu của Bill Wilson, ông xem cái T-Shirt mà tôi dùng khi làm Performance vào tháng 4-1995 ông yên lặng ,sau ðó ông giới thiệu một ðoạn Kich của Geogre Brecht trên một postcard mà ông hãy còn giử...Tôi đọc trước mặt ông những đoạn kịch ấy,cùng lúc ông cho xem những bài viết của ông về May Wilson thân mẩu của ông...Trong một gian phòng đầy ắp những sách vở trên đường số 25th và 10th ở Khu Chelsea, khu này theo Wilson có khoãng trên dýới 300 Gallery ðủ thể loại hoạt ðộng, lúc ấy thì trên tầng 2 của ngôi nhà Joe nhà những bạn bè đang làm bếp, tôi cũng có lên và trò chuyện cùng họ...
Lúc bấy giờ thì mọi ngýời ðã đến dần...

5.30Pm July 13-06
Tôi chụp thật nhiều ảnh sinh hoạt mà trong đó có Joe khãi đàn Guitar và hát một cách chân thành, Wilson tiếp khách ở tầng dýới, chúng tôi dùng rýợu nho và thức ãn nhẹ, tôi chụp nhiều tác phẩm trên vách do May Wilson ðã làm và lýu lại trên vách.
Gặp lại Jhonheld Jr có nhắn hắn về chuyến thãm viếng VN trong týõng lai, Gặp Felter ðến từ Vancouver ,và Jack ðến từ một nõi khác tất cả bây giờ tụ tập tại ðây,và vãn chuyện ăn uống...
7.30 Pm, tôi rời căn hộ Wilson và tản bộ trên các đường phố Manhattan ban đem để săn ảnh, New York về đêm thật nhộn nhịp và tuyệt đẹp...
9.30 am 14 July-2006
Đến một địa điểm Café Internet đối diện khách sạn trên đường 42nd để gưỉ và nhận mail, tản bộ và tiến đến MoMA trên đường số 53 và số 5, lúc ấy đã 10.30
viện bảo tàng vừa mở cửa nên không nhiều ngýời lắm, nhýng trên hàng ðầu ðã thấy co Felter (đến từ Vancouver)...sau đến mọi người đã tề tựu đông đảo như hôm qua, đây là một cuộc triển lãm lớn về trýờng phái DADA một thu hút lớn của viện bảo tàng trong nãm.
Joel làm việc thu tiền mua vé cho nhóm ðể xem , và hẹn mọi ngýời tại cửa sau 2Pm ðể cùng nhau ði ãn trýa.
Sau khi xem những công trình sáng tạo của DADAISM tôi vô cùng thán phục sự đóng góp lớn lao của các nghệ sỹ Dada trong cộng đồng nhân loại ,cho dù đã gần một thế kỹ đã qua , họ vẫn tồn tại trong lòngbao ngýời thiết tha với nghệ thuật tạo hình.

Chúng tôi kéo nhau đến phía sau của viện bão tàng nghệ thuật hiện đại(Museum of Modern Art) đây là một quán ăn nhanh có thương hiệu là Burger Heaven đã tồn tại gần 60 năm ở NY,dùng bửa ăn trưa , vãn chuyện trong khi ăn khoãng 3 Pm thì chúng tôi ra về...

Tôi thấm mệt nên về trýớc và ðình lại bửa tiệc tối hôm ấy tại Katz's để đón chuyến Bus về Montréal cho kịp vào sáng hôn sau...

Đã trãi qua 3 ngày đến NYC tôi rất vui khi gặp lại mọi người, rất nhiều người từ lâu chưa hề Gặp như: Honoria Starbuck,Johnheld Jr, Jack, Buzz,
Jae Lee, Anna Boshi,...
Một ngày đi qua để tưởng nhớ về Ray Johnson
